Dès ses 18 ans, il s’engage au Fort Hayes, COLUMBUS (Ohio, USA), le 30 décembre 1909 en tant que « private » (soldat 2e classe). Il recevra plus tard le matricule 1.101.655. Il intègre la 128e compagnie du Coast Artillery Corps (Corps d’artillerie côtière) durant sont premier engagement et sera libéré le 31 octobre 1912. Il s’engage à nouveau le 1er décembre 1913 et rejoint le 22 décembre, la 6e Compagnie de recrutement du service général d’infanterie au Fort Slocum situé sur l’Ile Davids à l’extrémité Ouest de LONG ISLAND SOUND, NEW ROCHELLE (New York, USA) jusqu’au 27 mai 1915. Il reste sans affectation jusqu’au 3 juin de la même année où il est assigné au 11e régiment de cavalerie, troupe M au Fort Oglethorpe, CATOOSA (Georgia, USA) puis le 21 juin 1917 la troupe M du 22e régiment de cavalerie qui vient d’être créée. Le 11 novembre 1917, la troupe M est basculée dans la batterie F du 80e régiment d’artillerie de campagne. Le 11 mai 1918, il sera transféré à la 7e division du train (Etat Major et police militaire) au Camp MacArthur, WACO (Texas, USA) et assigné à la compagnie A de la police militaire. Il sera promu « corporal » (caporal) le 5 juin 1917 puis « Sergeant » (sergent) le 1er septembre 1917 et « first sergeant » (sergent-chef), le 16 mai 1918.
From the age of 18, he enlisted at Fort Hayes, COLUMBUS (Ohio, USA), on December 30, 1909 as a private. He will later receive the serial number 1,101,655. He joined the 128th company of the Coast Artillery Corps during his first engagement and was discharged on October 31, 1912. He re-enlisted on December 1, 1913 and joined on December 22, the 6th Recruit Company of the General Service Infantry at Fort Slocum located on Davids Island at the western end of LONG ISLAND SOUND, NEW ROCHELLE (New York, USA) until May 27, 1915. He remained unassigned until June 3 from the same year when he was assigned to the 11th cavalry regiment, troop M at Fort Oglethorpe, CATOOSA (Georgia, USA) then on June 21, 1917 the troop M of the 22nd cavalry regiment which had just been created. On November 11, 1917, Troop M was transferred to Battery F of the 80th Field Artillery Regiment. On May 11, 1918, he was transferred to the 7th Train Division (General Staff and Military Police) at Camp MacArthur, WACO (Texas, USA) and assigned to Company A of the Military Police. He was promoted to corporal on June 5, 1917, then Sergeant on September 1, 1917 and first sergeant on May 16, 1918.

La totalité de la 7e division n'a pas vu les combats ; uniquement ses éléments d'infanterie et de reconnaissance. Le 11 octobre 1918, elle est venu sous le feu à Saint-Mihiel, et a subi les attaques chimiques. Des éléments de la 7e ont reconnu Prény, à côté de la Moselle, capturé des positions et conduit les allemands hors de la région. En septembre 1918, la division vient à la 15e zone d’entrainement dont le point central est ANCY-LE-FRANC (Yonne, France), à ARGENTENAY (Yonne, France).
The 7th division did not see action at full divisional strength, though its infantry and reconnaissance elements did engage German forces. On 11 October 1918, it first came under shell fire and later, at Saint-Mihiel, came under chemical attack. Elements of the 7th probed up toward Prény near the Moselle River, capturing positions and driving German forces out of the region.
In september 1918, the division came to the 15th training zone whose central point is ANCY-LE-FRANC (Yonne, France), in ARGENTENAY (Yonne, France).
Comme beaucoup d’hommes, il est atteint de la grippe espagnole et décède officiellement de pneumonie lobaire, le 20 septembre 1918, à 7h00, à l’hôpital auxiliaire n°29 d’ANCY-LE-FRANC. D’abord enterré à ANCY-LE-FRANC, son corps est exhumé pour le port de SAINT NAZAIRE le 22 octobre 1920 et y arrive le 2 novembre. Transféré 20 jours plus tard pour HOBOKEN (New Jersey, USA) à bord de l’USS WHEATON, il y arrive le 15 décembre et pour son dernier voyage du 3 au 4 janvier 1921 direction BERLIN (New Hampshire, USA) où sa sœur Amelia l’attend. Son lieu de sépulture est inconnu mais il repose probablement à BERLIN (New Hampshire, USA), au cimetière « Saint Anne Cemetery » où sa sœur repose.
Like many men, he was infected with the Spanish flu and officially died of lobar pneumonia on September 20, 1918, 7:00 a.m, on auxiliary hospital #29 at ANCY LE FRANC. First buried in ANCY-LE-FRANC, his body was exhumed for the port of SAINT NAZAIRE on October 22, 1920 and arrived there on November 2. Transferred 20 days later to HOBOKEN (New Jersey, USA) aboard the USS WHEATON, he arrived there on December 15 and for his last trip from January 3 to 4, 1921 towards BERLIN (New Hampshire, USA). His burial place is unknown but he is probably buried in BERLIN (New Hampshire, USA), at the "Saint Anne Cemetery" where his sister rests.
